Are you planning a Target run for Jason Wu’s capsule collection before going to your Super Bowl party? The collection launches tomorrow (Feb. 5) and has been almost as anticipated as fall’s Missoni for Target collection.
Jason Wu gained recognition for designing Michelle Obama’s inaugural gown. Take a look at TIME magazine’s photo gallery of Obama in the dress here. You can view the look book on Target.com now. Love the video in which Wu’s frisky black cat design comes to life and shows off the pieces.
Jason Wu for Target is the first of several designer collaborations coming to some of my favorite stores this spring.
On March 1, Banana Republic will launch its spring “Mad Men” collection with costume designer Janie Bryant. (You might remember that I blogged about meeting Bryant at the launch of the fall “Mad for Banana Republic” collection. Read that post here.) The collection debuts in anticipation of the March 25 return of the show on AMC, which is set around a 1960s advertising firm. The 40-piece collection is inspired by the country club scenes from the show.
“Spring delivers a whole new palette and gave us an excuse to draw from different scenes and wardrobe from the show as inspiration,” Banana Republic creative director Simon Kneen said in a news release.
If you are as excited about this as I am, you can visit Banana Republic’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/bananarepublic) and AMC’s “Mad Men” website (www.amctv.com/shows/mad-men) for access to two special launch events. Banana Republic cardholders gain early access to a pre-sale at 5 p.m. Feb. 29 before doors open to the public at 6 p.m.
A few days later on March 8, the Marni collection will be available at H&M. Sofia Coppola directed the ad for the collection with the Italian clothing line known for its artsy prints. Go behind the scenes with Coppola in the video below:
Banana Republic also recently announced that it will launch a collection with Los Angeles-based designer Trina Turk in June. Turk is known for bright, bold prints with a tropical yet sophisticated vibe. The 60-piece collection will include swimwear and towels, according to a news release.
Kneen said in a news release that he finds himself “continually inspired by the cool, modern vibe of southern California.”
“When we began working together on the collaboration, Simon and I decided early on that the Palm Springs ‘cocktails by the pool’ lifestyle would be our key inspiration for the colors, styles, and prints,” Turk said in the release.
